Watermarks

We stumbled upon two unusual watermarks.

This wedding invitation looks like it was printed on paper that was cast on a piece of woodblock.

And the mysterious lady on the picture below was found, while spring-cleaning our japanese tissue stash, on an old misplaced piece of hand made paper.

We couldn't discover the manufacturer, unfortunately. If you have any information on this lovely watermark, do let us know.

Relief etching print

This beautiful and curious relief etching came to our lab recently.

It was clear that it depicts some kind of map, except we had no idea what of, and we were asked to do a test print.

Note the interesting detail above. The plate was altered post-etching in five places. Additional cast metal numbers for a map legend were inserted into the holes that were drilled in five spots.

Our work is done! Now it's up to the curators to study this etching and discover it's provenance.
