Welcome to the unofficial blog of the Conservation Department of the National Library of Serbia.
Conservation Department of the National Library of Serbia is the largest and best equipped laboratory for conservation of paper and parchment in Serbia. It was formed in 1973. and completely renewed and expanded in 2008.
In an area of over 350 square meters, the following sections were formed:
- section for sterilization
- section for restoration
- section for restoration of large formatted documents, maps and works of art
- section for bookbinders
- chemical lab
- section for "wet processes" (washing, neutralization...)
- section for lamination and leaf casting
We care for all paper-based and parchment artifacts, ranging from medieval manuscripts, printed books, documents, photos, maps... to works of art (drawings, prints etc) on the territory of Serbia.
We have a young team of experts (biologists, chemists, conservators, bookbinders), great working space, equipment, knowledge and most important of all - good will for fighting the causes of deterioration of written cultural heritage!
